Additive Manufacturing for the Bike Industry
Lightweight construction and ergonomics are not only important in professional cycling but also when it comes to using those benefits for consumer bikes. Both can be implemented well with Additive Manufacturing. Nowadays more and more components of the bike are 3D printed, making use of the design freedom Additive Manufacturing can bring for weight-optimization, cost-effectiveness in production and to combine functionality with optimal geometries.
Real-Life Additive Manufacturing for the Bike Industry
Applications in the bike industry range from the recent trend of 3D printed saddles to bike computer mounts to handles. Forward AM cooperates with market-leading bike manufacturers to investigate how to optimize their bike parts, making use of lightweight construction, design freedom and cost effectiveness. With our deep material knowledge and printing services to support the end-to-end solution our experts are enabling innovations by performing the full potential of 3D Printing.
Light & Reliable Companon - Computer Mount
Striving for improved performance, Canyon, a market-leading bike manufacturer based in Koblenz, Germany turned to Additive Manufacturing for redesigning the part from scratch. Forward AM’s Virtual Engineering experts and printing service provider Sculpteo developed the new optimal design to provide excellent readability of the bike computer under all road conditions with the vibration being as low as possible.
Customized, Durable and long-lasting Bike Frames
Huhn Cycle has teamed up with Forward AM to create frame components supporting the high-durability, longevity and accuracy. 3D Printing with metal filaments was chosen due to the straightforward process of production and post-processing, reducing the time needed for frame building at low cost while fitting the standard stainless steel bicycle tubing.
Maximizing Rider Comfort with fully customized saddles
For decades saddle manufacturers have relied on foam, but foam has hit a plateau in structural and design possibilities, especially when it comes to adopting to personal requirements. Additive Manufacturing is able to solve this challenge by allowing more complex and intricate design tailored to riding style or body shapes to create unique riding experiences.
